An Update to Our Out-of-Hours Service

In an emergency, please call 01453 752555

Dear Clockhouse Clients, we have made a change to our out of hours service. As of 1st February 2022, if you call the practice between the hours of 10pm and 8am, the following service applies:

- Our on-site night nurses will take your call and provide guidance and advice

- If your pet needs to be seen during this time you will be directed to Chelvets situated at The Dragon Vet Centre in Cheltenham (all details will be provided via our night nurse team in this eventuality). This information is also provided on our website.

Our vets will continue to be on call and see you at the Clockhouse Hospital 8am until 10pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If your pet is admitted to our hospital throughout the day, prior to 10pm and requires overnight care, they will remain on site with our dedicated Night Nurse, and when necessary our on call Vet.

Clockhouse Vets has historically provided our own emergency out of hours service, staffed by members of our clinical team. Often our Vets have been required to work their normal day, be on call for emergencies throughout the night and then back in practice for the following day.

The unprecedented demand that we have seen on the practice over the past two years has unfortunately resulted in this service becoming an unmanageable undertaking for our professionals.

The pet population across the UK has grown significantly over the past two years, this coupled with a steep decline in professionals joining the work force, has put the Veterinary Industry as a whole under immense pressure.

We are aware that many clients consider the Out of Hours service when selecting a practice, it is because of this that the decision to change our emergency provision has not been an easy one. We have spent a significant amount of time exploring many ways to best support our team through this difficult time and the change to this part of our service is the result of these discussions.

Our Vets will continue to be on call for emergencies up until 10pm every day, 7 days a week. Having assessed our out of hours service in depth, this is the time frame in which we receive the majority of phone calls and call outs. If a patient then needs to be admitted as an inpatient and stay with us in the Hospital, our Vets will put together a comprehensive care plan of which our Night nurses are on hand to carry out, and provide your pets with all the care and attention they need. Subsequently only requiring our Vets to be on call for these inpatients between the hours of 10pm and 8am will vastly reduce the disruption to their rest and in turn improve their work/life balance.

Clockhouse continues to be a dedicated team of individuals who pride ourselves on the level of service and care we offer our patients and their owners. It is because of this that our staff's mental and physical wellbeing is at the forefront of this decision. Our intention is to care for one another first and foremost in order to best care for our clients and patients.

We would like to thank our clients for your patience and understanding during this time, we appreciate your continued support of our team.
